The new Skoda Octavia RS - the fastest Octavia ever

The new Skoda Octavia RS is the latest addition from the Czech car manufacturer that continues the most comprehensive model campaign in the company’s history with this sporty derivative of the bestselling Octavia range.

Available initially in combi (estate ), the RS is powered by two turbo charged engine alternatives. The volume seller in Ireland will be the 2.0 TDI 184bhp diesel, with a 2.0 TSI 220bhp petrol also featuring. Compared to the second generation Octavia RS, the new engines provide more power whilst consuming up to 19 per cent less fuel. Start-stop and brake energy regeneration are fitted as standard. Both engines are mated to six-speed manual transmissions or as an option a DSG dual clutch automatic transmission.

“The Octavia RS has always been a very unique proposition,” according to Raymond Leddy, head of marketing for Skoda Ireland. He continued: “We would all love to drive sporty high performance vehicles but are prevented from doing so because we assume they are unpractical and are expensive to run and purchase. The RS expels these myths with exceptional luggage and interior spaciousness and fuel economy from juts 4.6 l/100km (61mpg ).”

The new RS will be even more heavily equipped than the outgoing version with 18” alloy wheels, sports seats, bi-xenon headlights with LED and twin exhausts all added to the package. The combi (estate ) version will arrive in showrooms in late July with the hatchback version making an appearance in September. Prices have yet to be confirmed but are estimated to start from €32,495 for the Octavia 2.0 TDI 184bhp in hatchback.
