Fine weather brings out vandals and thieves

Gardaí are investigating vandalism to and theft from boats moored at Moorehall, Lough Carra.

One boat owner has had his boat vandalised twice in the past six weeks while another man also had his boat broken into. Protective clothing was stolen from both vessels.

In a second incident a boat belonging to a visiting fisherman from Tipperary was stolen and later found two miles from where it was berted. A sailing boat was also broken into and gear stolen from it on the same day.

In an effort to deter vandals and trespassers from causing any further damage local fishermen and sailing enthusiasts are looking into the possibility of erecting signage on their boats warning trespassers against entering their equipment. They are also investigating the feasibility of erecting CCTV in the area.

Last Friday evening, two handbags were stolen from two separate cars in the Tourmakeady Woods.

One bag was recovered on the side of the road. If anyone finds the second handbag, a large white bag, he/she can contact the Mayo Advertiser on 094 9035010.
