It was President’s Day (John Parson’s ) last Sunday and John O’Connor was the winner on a score of 51. Mick Mellett came second with Austin Callaghan third and Junior Prendergast taking the gross prize. Geraldine Evans was the ladies’ winner with Carmel Heverin second, Mary B O’Donnell third and Kitty O’Connor the gross prize winner. The youths section was claimed by Conor Holian, Marissa Brett was second and Adrian O’Connell finished in third.
Last weekend saw the Trevor Morror singles’ competition, with P Howley taking the win on 42pts, with J Durcan finishing in second place and D Tighe claiming third place and J Slater finishing in fourth place. The Friday open competition was won by J Forkin on 38, P O’Keefe was second and D Mulligan finished in third place. This Sunday is a singles’ competition sponsored by Mr A’s Menswear.
The gents monthly gold medal competition was won by Paul Kavanagh with a score of 63 nett, the silver medal went to Billy McGrath with William Kavanagh taking bronze. The JJ Burke Car Sales sponsored ladies’ competition was claimed by Anne Galvin on 69 nett with Joanne Comer taking second and Carmel Maloney took third place. The Costello and McDermott 36 hole classic was won by Blane Lynch with Paddy Lee finishing in second and Matthew Burke in third place. The ladies’ Gala Day was won by Shannon Burke with Carmel Maloney in second place, Anne Gavin in third and Jackie McGrath winning the gross prize. This Sunday is a ladies’ and gents’ single stableford competition sponsored by Tracy’s Pharmacy, Ballinrobe, Castlebar and Westport.
Last weekend’s competition was sponsored by McGarry’s Ladieswear and was won by Emmett Keane on 43pts, John Burke finished in second place two points further back and Stephen Murray was third on 40pts. The ladies’ competition was won by Jenny Glynn on 38pts and Marina Coyne finished in second place also on 38pts.
The Byrnes Babes society held an outing in Roscommon Golf Club on Thursday, June 6 and John McDonagh took home the win with a score of 37pts. Henry Horkan was in second place and Jimmy Murray finished in third place and John Waldon took fourth place. On Thursday, June 27 the society will be holding its captains prize in Castlebar Golf Club.
Last weekend was the Joe Langan memorial competition and a large number of players took part over the weekend. Jerry King was the winner of the competition on 45pts, with Shane Quigley coming home in second place on 39pts and Lee Brennan third and Kenneth Irwin taking the gross. Terri Fahy won the ladies’ competition and Nicola Sheridan took second place on a count-back with Breta Fitzmaurice third and Sheila Baynes the gross winner.
Frank Mullen won the AIB sponsored competition last weekend with a score of 65 nett, Kieran Dowd finished in second place and Joe Diskin came home in third with John Gibbons the category winner. The junior prize went to Conor McGuinness and Patricia Prendergast took the ladies win, with Peggy Tawse in second place and Noreen McHugh the nine hole competition winner.
With a score of 46pts, Tony McDonnell and Liam Walsh won the Mulranny Holmpatrick Cup qualifier by two shots from Alan McAdamand and Michael Fallon in second place. They advance to the Mayo finals looking to make it into the Connacht/Ulster regional event. This weekend’s competition is a golfer of the year event sponsored by Flannelly Insurance Castlebar.
In last weekend’s ladies’ competition, Patricia Feeney was the winner on 38pts with Ester Munnelly taking second place on 37pts on count-back from third place Carmel Timoney.
The Donnie O’Connor memorial competition was won by Harry Gillivan on a score of 69 nett. Second place went to Teddy McDonnell with Noel Feeney third and Gerry Hughes fourth. The current standings in the golfer of the year sees McDonnell in first place on 1080pts, with Shane Larkin second, David Scott third, Niall Keogh in fourth and a tie for fifth place between Brian Ainsworth and John Gavin.
