Drunk driver hit car

A man who drove home after a house party and collided with a car at a junction in Ballina was disqualified from driving at Ballina District Court on Tuesday.

Gardaí were called to a junction at Howley Street and the Lower Bunree Road, Ballina, on June 17 2012 at 6.30am. Oliver Kearney, 28 Abbey Court, Ballina, had hit a car as he drove through traffic lights. He was arrested for drink driving and a blood sample obtained showed 201mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

Kearney, who has no previous convictions, had been at a house party earlier that night and had slept in his car for a while before he thought he was okay to drive. He thought the light was green when he went through and hit the car.

The 37-year-old was convicted and fined €500 and disqualified from driving for three years.
