As part of being one of three towns selected nationwide as a heritage demonstration town, Westport will receive €120,000 this year to develop the pilot project.

According to town architect Simon Wall, €80,000 will be spent on capital projects and €30,000 on promotion. Mr Wall said that the council is working alongside the Clew Bay Heritage Centre, the Westport Historical Society, Westport House, the county council heritage officer and county archaeologist to draw up some plans.
