Sprint Triathlon coming back to Castlebar in April

Adventure Racing

Liquid Motion Triathlon Club and G.M.I.T. Castlebar are delighted to announce the launch of Castlebar Sprint Distance Triathlon 2013 on Sunday, April 21. Over 150 athletes are expected to compete on the day, ranging from the experienced to the first time novice. Already some of the West’s leading triathletes have signed up to take part in the event including last year’s winners Ruairí Geraghty (Galway Triathlon Club ) and Rachel Glendon (Wicklow Triathlon Club ). The race itself will consist of a 750m swim (30 lengths ) which is taking place at Castlebar Swimming Pool, a 20km cycle through the surrounding countryside and then back into Castlebar for the 5km run. For those new to the multi-disciplinary world of triathlon, a sprint distance race such as this offers a fantastic way to dip your toe, so whether you are an experienced triathlete looking for a personal best or you’re taking on your very first challenge, this event will provide the perfect setting for it.

The 2012 race was very well received and attended, a fact due in no small part to the support the organising committee received from a wide array of local groups including Mayo Council Council, Castlebar Cycling Club, Order of Malta, Civil Defence and an Garda Síochana. Online entry to the Castlebar Sprint Distance Triathlon is open via www.triathlonireland.com Cost of entry is €35 single and €70 for relay teams.
