Young Pugilists take to scales

The younger pugilists in Connacht boxing will have the opportunity to qualify for the National Championships this weekend on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10 in Foxford Sports and Leisure Centre. Following a very successful Boy 4, Youth 1, Youth 2 Championships in the same venue and again hosted by the Knockmore Boxing Club the Boy 1, 2, 3 and under 18 Girls and Boys will take to the scales at 9am and the first boxers will step between the ropes at noon. A large entry is expected into these championships from the 47 clubs throughout the province and the finals will be held in Oughterard on Saturday March 16 commencing at 10 am.

Baker’s Dozen decided on in St Anne’s Club

The final thirteen Connacht Boy 4, Youth 1, Youth 2 2013 titles were decided on last Wednesday evening in the Peter Callaghan Centre, Westport. Two long previous days of boxing could not bring the championships to a conclusion so the final places were decided on in the mid week session. The best performance on this mini program was between local boxer James Daly and Ballinacarrow’s James Lynch. In an all action bout in which the Sligo boxer would not step backwards at any time throughout the three rounds saw the visitor come away with on a score of 24/15. Ciara Ginty Geesala just back from International duty out boxed Castlebar girl Claire Mc Donagh on a double score of 12/6.
