Charlestown Library

This year’s Seactain na Gaeilge will begin on March 4. The events at the library get started with oiche ceol agus craic le Joe agus a chairde on March 8. On March 9 there will be a puppet show at the art centre starting at 12 noon. The book club will be held on March 12 at 8.30pm and it will be a meeting with a difference as everyone will be using a cupla focal to discuss their books.

On March 15 there will be dancing for young and old. There will be sean nos dancing for adults between 12 noon and 1pm and for children of all ages from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.

Ballinrobe Golf Club

The club is running a silent auction from Sunday March 3 to Sunday March 10.

When you decide on an item you place your bid in a box and the highest bidder receives the item at end of the week.

The highlight of the auction will be a pony which was presented to the club by one of the members.

St Patrick’s Day Parade in Westport

Preparations for the 2013 St Patrick’s Day Parade are well under way. The 2013 parade will be on Sunday March 17 starting at 1.30pm.

The theme for the parade is Westport – The Best Place To Gather, and any school, business, or voluntary group that wishes to take part in the parade is asked to register with Westport Town Council on 098 50400 as soon as possible. Generous prizes will be awarded to the winning entrants in various categories.

Gnó Mhaigh Eo will once again be sponsoring the Flóta is Fearr competition. This year’s theme will be Gaeilge and Fáilte.

Clare Island 10K

The second annual Clare Island 10K run/walk in aid of Cancer Care West will take place on Saturday April 27.

Entry to this year's event is now open, and there are a limited number of places available. The entry fee is €38, and this includes return ferry from Roonagh Pier, outside Louisburgh, on the day of the race. There will be refreshments provided prior and post the event as well as en route water stations, race medals are also included in the entry fee. Table quiz for Aware

Ballina lads Jim Mescal and David Horkan will be canoeing from Westminster to Devizes (125 miles ) in aid of Aware and are holding a fundraising table quiz in the Loft Bar, Pearse Street, Ballina today, Friday at 9pm. €20 per terms of four, great fun and lots of raffle prizes on the night.

Cancer information evening

Claremorris FRC

Families Working Together for the Future course will take place in Claremorris FRC in March.

The aim of this programme is to support families of children of all ages to affirm their roles as parents and help them to acquire skills which will enhance their role as parents. It also aims to help parents to adapt to a changing society and to cope with some of the issues which arise as a result of this.

The Connacht Baby Show

The Family Centre, Chapel Street, Castlebar, is offering a one day course to teach you how to use Christian meditation to help you enjoy life more and gain an internal quietness and deep calm in your heart and life. Property tax truths meeting

An information about the property tax will take place in the Mill Times Hotel, Westport, tomorrow March 2 from 11am to 1pm. The meeting will discuss what the public are not being told.

RNLI Sea Safety division

A lifejacket inspection and demonstration will take place at 8pm on Tuesday March 5 in Eagles Leisure Centre, Downhill Hotel, Ballina.

Everybody is welcome to come and have their Lifejacket inspected free of charge.

The inspection will be carried out by Noel Conlon, RNLI sea safety volunteer and the lifejacket demonstration will be undertaken by volunteer crew members from the RNLI Ballyglass Lifeboat.

US Embassy consular service

The US Embassy in Dublin is issuing a message to inform US citizens that representatives from the embassy will be providing consular services in the Westport Plaza, Westport, on March 4 ( 1pm to 6pm ) and March 5 (9am to 12pm ).

The services available will be US passport applications, registrations of children born in Ireland to US parent,s and notarials.

US citizens wishing to avail of these services should send an e-mail to [email protected] with their name, service required, and telephone number. It shall be necessary to schedule an appointment in advance.

Erris Care and Repair Service

A volunteer training day will take place on Thursday March 7 at 11am in Áras Inis Glauire for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer for the recently launched Erris Care and Repair Service.
