St Anthony’s Special School open and enrolment day 2013

St Anthony’s is a co-educational special school in Castlebar providing primary and post-primary education for children between the ages of four and 18 years who have mild general learning difficulties. St Anthony’s also caters for children who may have additional difficulties such as autism, assessed syndromes, visual or hearing impairment, physical disability, or ADHD.

The teaching and support staff are committed to providing the students with the best educational and support practices available. There are high educational and behavioural expectations that every child will reach his/her potential and develop into a well rounded, capable young adult who can live and work in the local community.

The full primary school curriculum is taught in all classes with differentiation for individual needs as required. Students between 12 and 18 years of age also enjoy an adapted post-primary curriculum with subject specialist teachers for home economics, woodwork, music, and PE. Social, personal, and health development skills are a priority at all levels. Senior students may complete ASDAN certification programmes and awards.

Students also participate in many extra-curricular activities

Due to increasing pupil numbers, St Anthony’s is also building a classroom extension which will mean extra space and resources for all students attending the school.

The annual open day will be held on Wednesday, February 13, from 1pm to 3.30pm. This will be a fantastic opportunity for parents, families, and other professionals to visit the school and see what it is all about.
