Holistic approach to education at St Louis Community School, Kiltimagh

St Louis Community School, Kiltimagh is a co-educational school with a current enrolment of 644 pupils. With an exceptional history in second level education, current programmes on offer include TY, JCSP, LCVP and LCA while still maintaining an outstanding record in the traditional Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate programmes. A recipient of numerous national awards for individual academic performances in several subject areas, St Louis is now a pilot school for the new Junior Cycle framework. In addition, existing opportunities in preparation for third level education include successful Fetac, City and Guilds and PLC programmes spanning a wide variety of areas including pre-nursing, sports and recreation, business, childcare and hairdressing.

The hard work and dedication of a very enthusiastic and vibrant staff, with the support of a highly commendable management team, was recently documented in an initial report from the Inspectorate of the Department of Education and Science. Preliminary results from documented surveys confirmed that 98 per cent of students stated they were proud to be part of the community that is St Louis. Such a statistic undoubtedly arises from the fact that in addition to striving to attain academic excellence, the school boasts an extremely comprehensive range of pastoral structure support systems including year heads, pastoral care team, chaplain, guidance counsellor, student council and prefect system, Big Brother Big Sister and Circle of Friends.
