Women stole groceries

Two women were before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday in relation to theft of €29 worth of groceries from Casey’s Centra, Castlebar.

On September 26 2012 Tina McDonagh, 20 Cherrington Place, Castlebar, and Winifred McDonagh, no fixed abode, Castlebar, entered Centra where they stole baby nappies, Calpol, bananas, oranges, and a Barbie magazine. CCTV captured them stealing the items and the property was recovered.

The court heard that Winnie McDonagh had just moved back from Dublin at the time of the incident and had no money as she was waiting for her social welfare to be transferred. The 37-year-old married mother of five, who has two previous convictions, was convicted and fined €100 by Judge Denis McLoughlin.

Tina McDonagh has a suspended sentence from the circuit court and was therefore remanded to Castlebar Circuit Court on January 22.
