Erris No Name Club wins road safety award

A total of 36 awards were presented at this year’s Road Safety Authority (RSA ) Leading Lights in Road Safety Awards which were held in Farmleigh, Phoenix Park, on Wednesday.

Hosted by RSA chairman Gay Byrne and attended by almost 200 award winners, the awards celebrate the outstanding efforts made by people and groups throughout the country to help promote awareness of road safety. The Road Safety Ambassador award went to Erris No Name Club.

The Erris No Name Club in Belmullet actively contributes to making Irish roads safer and spreading awareness about road safety by doing a road safety project. This year, that project was the production and distribution of a silver remembrance ribbon to commemorate all those who have died on the roads. Supporting this idea, all of the no name clubs in Mayo will be distributing the ribbons free. The ribbons, reaching a large number of people in Mayo, will successfully commemorate those lost lives and in turn spread the message of the importance of road safety.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Gay Byrne, chairman of the Road Safety Authority, expressed his gratitude and admiration for the Leading Lights winners: ”As always, I am extremely proud and honoured to be here today to present these awards and recognise the outstanding efforts of individuals and organisations who have selflessly given of their time to promote road safety. And I think I can speak for the other members of the judging panel when I say that this year, we found it extremely difficult to choose a winning entry in each category, such was the standard of entries we received.”
