GAA presentations

Mayo Ladies’ GAA County Board will hold an afternoon of presentations in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar, on Sunday December 7 from 3pm to 6pm. The afternoon will honour club and county players.

GAA fixture

The minor football league division one final between Knockmore and Aghamore will take place on Saturday December 6 at 1pm in Kiltimagh.

Castlebar Mitchels

The Castlebar Mitchels AGM took place on Saturday evening in An Sportlann. The meeting reflected on a year when much progress was seen both on and off the field. Our senior team and a number of our underage teams demonstrated that the talent exists within the club to compete at the highest level in Mayo and the club looks forward to 2009 with confidence. Significant investment in club pitches and facilities has seen a substantial improvement in the quality of our facilities due to major drainage work on our pitches and the provision of floodlighting on our main pitch.

The AGM, however, will have to be reconvened at 6pm on Saturday December 13 to complete the selection of officers. James Rock will be stepping down from his position as chairman of the club. As no alternative name had been proposed for the post of chairman, it was decided that members of the club should be given two weeks to nominate a new chairman. Nominations for the post should be forwarded to club secretary Finian Joyce by Wednesday December 10.

Members are invited to attend the reconvened meeting.

Sean and David have pitted their skills in professional bike races around the world now its time to see what they are like using BMX bikes over a course with bumps, jumps and curved corners.

The aim is to get kids trying out cycling by teaching them how to BMX in a safe, protected environment away from road traffic, it is also hoped that with coaching and training some of these kids would be talent ID for the next Olympics in 2012 or 2016 as BMX is now a recognised Olympic discipline.
