Man collided with car after driving through red light

A 71-year-old man who collided into a car after he drove through a red light was convicted for careless driving at Ballina District Court this week.

Gardaí were called to a collision at the junction of Teeling Street and Tone Street, Ballina on April 18 2012 at 8.20pm.

Joseph Healy, Abbeyhalfcourt, Ballina had broken a red light and collided in to the front driver side of a woman’s car. There was damage caused to the car and the woman had slight bruising from the incident.

Michael Bohan, solicitor for Healy said that his client had at the last minute decided to go straight, instead of turning right and changed lanes, however the lights had changed at this stage.

The self employed contractor has no previous convictions.

Judge Mary Devins dismissed the dangerous driving charge and convicted and fined him €400 for careless driving.
