Free information meeting – Taking the Mystery out of Drugs

Myths and mystery often surround the use of illegal substances. On Friday night, November 16, there will be a free information talk on drug use in Ireland in the Mayo Education Centre, Castlebar (near GMIT ).

Members of the public are invited to attend Taking the Mystery out of Drugs presented by The Learning Curve Institute to learn about the facts, disregard the fiction, and have their questions answered in a relaxed and informal environment.

Drug use can be a frightening prospect for many, from parents who feel ill equipped to communicate on the topic with their children as they approach teenage years, to those living and working in the community who encounter the effects of drug use directly or indirectly.

The aim of the information evening is to increase public understanding of drug use and its effects on communities, families, and the individual.

The event will be presented by Sean Foy and Liam O’Loughlin, who have both worked in the field of substance abuse and addiction, and are senior lecturers in addiction with Mayo based training company The Learning Curve Institute.

Among the topics covered will be facts about substance use/misuse, both illegal and over the counter, recognising the signs of addiction, treatment options, and information on evidence based approaches to recovery and intervention that may help. There will be a short Q&A session at the end.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. The talk will start at 8pm sharp until 9.30pm. Call the Learning Curve Institute Office on 098 25530 for more information.
