Drop in live register figures in the west

There has been a monthly decrease in the number of people who live in the west region signing on to the live register in October.

Some 37,900 people signed on in the west — Mayo, Roscommon, Galway city and county — during October, a decrease from 38, 813 signing on in September. 14,393 females signed on and 23,503 males.

The CSO also released The Statistical Yearbook of Ireland 2012 figures this week. The population of Mayo in was 130,638—65,420 males and 65,218 females. The population in Mayo actually increased by 6,779 from 2006 to 2011.

Births and deaths registered in Mayo during 2011 were 1,776 births and 1,024 deaths.

Sixty one divorces were granted in the county during 2011; 30 separations were granted and three marriages were nullified.
