After a night’s entertainment at The Magic Parlour at Hotel Westport I was left speechless at the mind-blowing magic which I witnessed by former Las Vegas magician Dan O’Donoghue. The Magic Parlour is the only show of its type in Ireland, where guests are treated to card tricks, magic, and storytelling while enjoying a four-course AA Rosette award winning dinner.
This is dinner theatre at its best where the diners enjoy a stage show, which of course involves a lot of audience participation, and up close table tricks, which allows you to personally experience sleight of hand card tricks which will enthral you and leave you believing in magic.
As a great fan of magicians and mentalists such as Derren Brown, I was pretty sceptical about what would be performed, however after a few minutes at the show I was left in awe and without giving too much away of what the fun night entails, one trick which left me mesmerised was Dan’s card trick which he used to perform for high-rollers in Las Vegas casinos—four aces which were definitely not the four cards which I had my hand over, suddenly vanished from the deck of cards which I could see in front of me, and appeared under my hand. However a newly engaged couple from Northern Ireland who were sitting beside me experienced more of a heart in the mouth moment when Dan made their precious engagement ring disappear. The stage show was also a gripping experience and one trick I would like to learn the secret to is how Dan made a G&T appear from a page of a newspaper!
The show is a great round-up to a weekend, and should be experienced as seeing is believing. The show will take place every Sunday night from June to September 30.
