Mayo mourns death of young Swinford man in Laos

The town of Swinford and further afield in the county were this week trying to come to terms with the tragic news that popular 23-year-old soccer player Gary Price was drowned in a tragic accident in Loas in South East Asia. Price was in Laos with two friends on holiday, having lived in Australia for the previous year, when he drowned in the tragic accident.

Mr Price was an accomplished soccer player, starring for both his native Swinford and then with Castlebar Celtic where he was part of the clubs historic FAI Youth Cup win in 2007.

A support fund to help with the repatriation of Gary Price’s body and other expenses has been set up. Donations can be paid to the Allied Irish Bank, Swinford branch, Sort Code: 93 72 66, Account Number: 05666088 or donations can be made online at www.idonate.ie/326_gary-price-support-fund html.

The Mayo League has postponed all games involving his former clubs as a mark of respect to Mr Price and have requested a minute’s silence to be observed before all matches that go ahead.
