Fine for man who left crashed car abandoned on the road

A Westport man who abandoned his girlfriend’s car on the Westport to Castlebar road after he crashed into a wall was ordered to pay €250 to Western Alzheimers and given the benefit of the probation act in Castlebar District Court on Tuesday.

Darren Snee, 19 A Lower Carrowbeg, Westport, pleaded guilty to failing to notify the Gardai and leaving the scene of the accident. Garda Ronan McIntyre told the court that on August 28 2011 at around 3.50am, Snee was involved in accident where he crashed into a wall, he left the car where it was on the road and got a taxi home.

When the Gardai investigated the accident the registration number of the car led them to Snee’s girlfriend, who owned the car. Snee admitted to driving it at the time of the accident and was fully insured and the damage caused to the wall had been covered by his insurance.
