Fitzmaurice wins Harlequin Adventure Duathlon

Glorious weather brought enthusiastic athletes out to enjoy Castlebar last weekend. The event was blessed with the beautiful sunny weather and for the hundreds who took part most could enjoy the views without been overwhelmed by the tough course.

The first male finisher of this challenging course was Jamie Fitzmaurice of Piranha Tri Club from Dublin in a time of 1:41:47. Hot on his heels was Brendan Conway of Westport in 1:42:57, followed by local man Anto Devaney in 1:43:31.

In the ladies’ event Marie Boyle from Spiddal won for the second year with a time of 1:54:42, but she had to work hard on the second bike leg to put day light between herself and Ann Marie Egan from Westport who took second place, and Helen Gibbs from Buckinghamshire took the final podium position to get third.

A mini duathlon also took place and first home in this event in a super time of 47:18 was Sean Brophy. Padraic McVann was second home followed by Carmel Cloherty.

The event organisers would like to thank race sponsors the Harlequin Hotel, Marrey Bikes, and Exposure Castlebar. This event was supported by Mayo County Council, Castlebar Town Council, the Civil Defence, Coillte, Castlebar Cycling Club, and the Garda.
