Mayo non-profits encouraged to apply for $1m in grants

Non-profit organisations in Mayo will have the opportunity to apply for $1m in funding through The Ireland Funds 2012 Grant Round, which will support projects in the areas of arts and culture, community development, education, and peace and reconciliation.

In the 2011 Grant Round, three Mayo organisations were successful in their applications for funding.

These were: Comharchumann Forbartha Cill TSeandan Teo, Ballina; Iorras Le Cheile CDP, Belmullet; and Ballinglen Arts Foundation; Ballycastle

In 2012, the Ireland Funds will accept applications in the following categories:

- investing in Ireland's communities

- providing access to education

- promoting culture and heritage

- assisting disadvantaged youth

- assisting the elderly "forgotten Irish"

- promoting philanthropy in Ireland

- supporting a shared future for Northern Ireland
