Mayo League enter EA Sports Cup

The best of the Mayo League will be going up against the best that the League of Ireland has to offer this spring after the league accepted an invitation from the FAI to enter the league cup this season. The Mayo League will be the only junior team in the competition. Mayo League chairman Padraic McHale said on the announcement that he was “delighted to receive the invitation, and would be a further stepping stone for many of our players, to play in a higher grade of football”.

The draw for the group stage of the cup was made on Wednesday and the Mayo League have been pitted in pool two alongside Finn Harps, Derry City, Sligo Rovers, Fanad United and Monaghan United. The Mayo League were drawn to play Finn Harps on Monday, March 26, in the first round. The Mayo League held its AGM in Milebush Park last night at 8pm, and a healthy debate on a number of topics was expected to take place among the delegates and the league management committee. The Mayo League also announced earlier this week that the Quigley Cup final between Castlebar Celtic and Ballyheane has been moved from Manulla to Milebush, the game will kick off at 2pm in the Mayo League headquarters.

Local derby in Connacht Cup last eight

The winners of the game will face a trip away to Ballinasloe Town in the last four. There will be Mayo interest in the Junior Shield where Ballyheane will be hosting Loughrea in the semi-final of the competition. The action gets under way in both games at 2pm on Sunday.
