Grenades takes to the Linenhall stage

For a dazzling evening of top new Irish theatre, look no further than Tara McKevitt’s hugely acclaimed play Grenades at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Wednesday March 14 at 8pm.

Set in Northern Ireland in 1979, Nuala is a tough nine-year-old living with her mother, brother, and grandfather. She thinks the class bully is just a big baby, and that all the nuns are cranky old crones. She loves Thin Lizzy and The Undertones just like her big brother Oran, who is 15 and thinks he is Casanova. Nuala thinks he is more like Jesus - she would do anything for him. But what she does one day for her brother, no-one could ever have imagined…

Set in a prison 10 years later, Grenades is a compelling drama that has at its heart the bruised innocence of Nuala, who must re-live the events of her childhood and finally make sense of them all. A highly acclaimed first play by Tara McKevitt, winner of the 2010 RTÉ PJ O’Connor Award and a Gold Award at the New York Festivals Radio Awards 2011 for the radio version of Grenades.
