Mall in Castlebar to be lit next Christmas

The Mall in Castlebar will be lit up with lights next Christmas following the agreement of Castlebar Town Council to spend €50,000 on Christmas lights for 2012 in its budget. The issue of the high cost of the lights in the budget estimate was raised by Fine Gael councillor Noreen Heston at the budget meeting this week. Town manager Seamus Granahan explained that there would be a major one off cost incurred this year so that The Mall would be lit next year as would other streets in the town off Main Street. The extra money would go towards new lights to cover the extra streets and The Mall and would pay for the permanent installation of the electrical work for the lighting of the trees in The Mall, which would be left in place throughout the year.
