Open meeting to explain workings of Lions Club

The Belmullet/Erris Lions Club will hold an open meeting on Thursday January 12 to highlight the workings of the organisation for members of the public.

Lions president Derek Reilly explained: "There is sometimes a misconception of what a Lions club is about and that it's some kind of elite organisation. This meeting is to show exactly what the club was formed for and what we have achieved in the community since we were formed.

“Lions club members are men and women who strive to make a difference in their local community as well as in communities worldwide. Their volunteer efforts address health and education needs worldwide. Whenever a Lions club gets together, problems get smaller and communities get better; that's because we help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy.

“Our 46,000 clubs and 1.35 million members make us the world's largest service club organisation. Our members do whatever is needed to help their local communities. Everywhere we work, we make friends - with children who need eyeglasses, with seniors who don’t have enough to eat, and with people we may never meet.

“Please spread the word about this meeting as we want as many to attend as possible. Start time is 8pm in the Broadhaven Bay Hotel. All are welcome."
