Calls for roundabout to regulate dangerous Ballinrobe junction

A speeding issue which is plaguing road users in Ballinrobe and which hasn’t been tackled by Mayo County Council despite local representations, will be a local councillor’s number one priority for the 2012 road works programme.

The people of Ballinrobe have spoken in relation to the road safety issue in their area with over 200 signatures being added to a local petition.

The petition is in relation to the Neale Road/ Clonbur Road junction in Ballinrobe where there is a huge problem with speeding.

Local councillor Damien Ryan handed the petition in to Mayo County Council on behalf of his constituents in July and at this week’s meeting of the Claremorris electoral area meeting he again raised the issue.

According to Cllr Ryan the locals would like to see a roundabout installed at the junction to curb speeding and make the road safer for all users. He added that a roundabout would also regulate the junction.

Cllr Ryan also explained that a new surface at the offending junction has led to traffic travelling at “an awful speed
