Ballina councillors approve overdraft facility for €1 million

Ballina Town Council this week approved to have in place an overdraft facility to the value of €1 million for the council.

Cllr Mary Kelly proposed the adoption of the facility and said how pleased she was that despite having this facility the council had never had to use it, because of the prudent planning by the council and the executive.

Cllr Mark Winters seconded the overdraft but questioned why the limit had been increased from €500,000 to €1 million this year, and was the town manager trying to tell the council that it would be needed to be used next year. Town manager Paddy Mahon told Cllr Winters that he did not see any reason why it would be needed and it was just a proactive approach to ensure that the money was there in case it was ever needed in the future.
