Curves donates joining fee to Rock Rose House and Hospice during October

Drop off your bra for breast cancer

Curves Castlebar has pledged to lend its support to Action Breast Cancer in an effort to raise funds for vital support programmes in Ireland and to educate Irish women on breast cancer issues.

Curves clubs across Ireland have committed to help raise money for the charity through a series of events and initiatives throughout the month of October. Curves Castlebar will also promote means of early detection and prevention, such as mammograms, self-examination of breasts, and regular physical exercise, in its clubs. At Curves Castlebar you can purchase the Liv Aid breast self-exam kit, endorsed by Olivia Newton John, and which makes breast self-exam simpler and more effective.

The women’s-only fitness centre, located in Moneen Industrial Estate, will also waive the joining fee for new members during October 1 to 16 in return for a donation to Rock Rose House and Mayo Roscommon Hospice. Funds raised on behalf of Action Breast Cancer will help to ensure that everyone affected by breast cancer receives the highest standards of treatment, support, and care, and to improve the quality of life of people living with breast cancer.

As part of the fundraising efforts, Curves will collect old and/or unwanted bras from both Curves members and local residents for the club’s bra recycling bank, with €1 being raised for Action Breast Cancer for each kilo of bras donated.

Teresa McHugh, of Curves, said: “Fundraising for breast cancer charities is something which unites the Curves community globally and we’re delighted to be able to support Action Breast Cancer, whose goals of supporting and strengthening women match Curves’ core values extremely well.”
