Stunning drama Brighton at the Linenhall

The warm, funny, poignant and critically acclaimed new Irish play Brighton by Jim Nolan plays at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Wednesday October 5 at 8pm.

Set in the Sisters of Calvary Nursing Home in London, Brighton follows elderly Irish woman, Fulham FC supporter and ‘Terror of the Third Floor’, Lily Thompson on her last great adventure. Sustained by her daily pilgrimage to the shopping mall at Hammersmith Tube station and the friendship of Care Assistant and passionate Arsenal fan, Dave, the arrival of a new resident, the celebrated actor Jack Dunhill, brings them all unexpected challenges and new horizons.

NoCrows come to Castlebar

The awesome foursome of musicians that is NoCrows bring their energy and flair to the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar for a concert on Wednesday October 12 at 8pm.

NoCrows is an awesome foursome of fine musicians based in Sligo. Guitarist Felip Carbonell’s Flamenco/Manouche-style guitar provides the engine for NoCrows’ exciting and stylish music, with the energetic style and repertoire of violinist par excellence Steve Wickham of The Waterboys adding spice to the quartet’s sound. Anna Houston's Swiss/Celtic roots are apparent in her intricate and soulful playing of the cello and mandolin, while Eddie Lee provides the hot grooves on his double bass. Their repertoire is truly global as their music ranges from Irish traditional to classical and gypsy swing as well as folk tunes from Finland, Moldova, Russia, Venezuela, Greece and beyond, as witnessed on acclaimed albums Magpie and the recently released NoCrows On The Moon. NoCrows has toured in Spain, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland, including performances at two of Europe’s major festivals, Glastonbury (UK ) and Dranouter (Belgium ). Come and check them out.

David O’Doherty brings his unique brand of comedy to Castlebar

Pssst! Don’t tell anyone, but award-winning Irish stand-up and sit-down comedian David O’Doherty is performing at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Friday, October 28 at 8pm.

The 2008 Edinburgh Comedy Award winner, 2010 Hot Press Irish Comedian of the Year, 1990 East Leinster under 14 triple jump bronze medallist appears in the intimate setting of the Linenhall for a night of offbeat hilarity.
