Motivation Weight Management Clinic comes to Castlebar

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD this week officially opened the new Motivation Weight Management Clinic in Castlebar. Motivation Weight Management Clinics has a unique approach to weight management by looking at why we eat what we eat. The Taoiseach was joined by Robin and Imelda Smith, owners of the Mayo clinic and both former clients of Motivation Weight Management Clinics who collectively lost six stone.

The Taoiseach commented at the opening of the clinic on the need for motivation in the country at this time and assured the owners that the clinic would be a success as they provided a much needed service in combating the increased problem of obesity. He also commented on the worldwide debate on obesity particularly with a focus on children and encouraged people to get active, gain an understanding of the relationship between fat and muscle and realise that they only have “one body and one life” and he highlighted his own active lifestyle, having recently cycled the Ring of Kerry and suggested others partake in similar activities for the numerous charities around the country.

“We are delighted to see the doors of the Mayo Motivation Weight Management Clinic officially open and very pleased to have Enda Kenny on hand to cut the ribbon. Unfortunately obesity is on the rise in Ireland and it must be addressed, as someone who has suffered from obesity I know how important it is to look after your health and wellbeing. Motivation Weight Management Clinics gave my husband and myself a whole new way of looking at weight management. We experienced great success and lost 63 pounds between us and we have now dedicated ourselves to helping others do the same,” commented Imelda Smith.

Motivation Weight Management Clinics recently confirmed that they will open 16 new clinics by 2013 creating up to 80 jobs as obesity in Ireland has reached epidemic proportions.

Motivation Weight Management Clinics has a unique approach to weight management. French Canadian founder of Motivation Weight Management Dr Maurice Larocque discovered that 70 per cent of overeating is emotional and that if emotional issues are not treated, the illness cannot be treated. Dr Larocque says: “When you treat obesity by means of a diet or exercise you are merely treating the symptoms of the condition. Maintenance of weight is only achieved by dealing with the behaviour and attitude behind the problem.”

Motivation Weight Management Clinics’ clients are given a behavioural modification programme to follow, which enables them to recognise their triggers and bad habits and to learn how to keep the weight off long-term.

Obesity is strongly related to diabetes and is also linked with increased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, gall bladder disease, bone joint disorders amongst other illnesses.

“We are delighted to be able to bring our service to more and more people and are passionate about helping people to live to full, happy and healthy lives,” says Managing Director, Paul Connolly.
