Mayo sides look to hit Monaghan clubs for three

It’s semi-final time this weekend in the VHI Ladies’ Club Championships and three Mayo champions at every grade have made their way through the Connacht stages to be only one game away from their respective finals. Standing in their way are the three clubs from the Farney county, with two of the Mayo sides getting the advantage of staying at home while the other must make the trip to Ulster.

The current All Ireland senior club champions Carnacon will be hosting Donaghmoyne in Clogher on Sunday in what looks on paper like a thrilling encounter. Carnacon, who were red hot favourites to see off Roscommon challengers with ease in the Connacht final, were given a serious shock by the Roscommon girls who really put it up to them and this weekend they will have to be in top form ahead of the visit of the Dunaghmoyne girls.

The intermediate championship sees The Neale make the long trip to Emyvale on Saturday afternoon. The Emyvale girls have a number of players who powered Monaghan past Mayo in the inter-county All Ireland semi-final during the summer and they will ask serious questions of the likes of Helena Lohan, Jackie Moran and Kaitie Walsh all who will have to be on top form if The Neale are to progress.

The junior final four showdown will see Knockmore hoping to continue to improve on the progress they have made so far this year. Knockmore have been involved in tough battles so far this year, none more so than against Glenamaddy when they needed a last-minute goal to scrape through. Nothing will be easy for any of the Mayo sides this weekend against their Monaghan opponents.
