BreastCheck mobile moves to Ballina

The National Cancer Screening Service has confirmed that a BreastCheck mobile screening unit has arrived in Ballina to provide free breast x-rays (mammograms ) to approximately 2,500 women aged 50 to 64.

The BreastCheck mobile screening unit is on location in the grounds of St Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina. Screening starts on Monday August 22 and women aged 50 to 64 living in Ballina and surrounding areas will be invited by letter for their free mammogram, on an area-by-area basis. BreastCheck will remain in Ballina until all eligible women have been offered an appointment.

A mammogram is a simple procedure that only takes minutes and a BreastCheck appointment only takes about half an hour in total. The aim of screening is to detect early breast cancer.

BreastCheck advises all women aged 50 to 64 to make sure their name is on the BreastCheck register by calling Freephone 1800 454555 or checking online at www.breastcheck.ie
