As ever SuperValu has endeavoured to bring additional value and innovation to its popular scheme, which was first launched in 1999. This year customers can choose to upgrade their usual break to the new SuperValu ‘Great Getaway’ break option. This automatically provides discounts of 25 per cent or more at participating restaurants or tourist attractions nationwide. Upgrading could not be easier, just follow the simple instructions on the website or click on the dedicated icon.
Some of Ireland’s top tourist attractions such as Dublin Zoo, the Aquadome in Tralee, and the Aillwee Caves are included in this offer. Mayo visitor attractions that should see an uplift in visitors due to the support of the programme include O'Malley Ferries, Westport House and Gardens, and Westport House and Pirate Adventure Park.
Since the launch of SuperValu Getaway Breaks, some two million SuperValu shoppers have enjoyed a Getaway Break in Ireland. 2010 was a particularly strong year for the scheme with more than 140,000 bookings and 700,000 SuperValu customers, their families, and friends availing of the offer. This contributed some €25 million in direct revenue to the Irish tourism sector, serving to both create and protect jobs in the industry.
