Man who had four pints watching match banned for two years

A Cong man was disqualified from driving for two years at Castlebar District Court after he pleaded guilty to drink driving. Philip Lydon with an address at Salmon Weir, Cong, was stopped by Garda Sean Lydon at Rathkelly, Ballinrobe, on September 19 2010 at 1.53am while the garda was carrying out a mandatory alcohol test checkpoint.

Lydon failed the roadside breath test and was arrested and brought to Castlebar Garda Station. He gave a breath sample in Castlebar which returned a reading of 46mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. Lydon told the court that he had been in the pub that evening watching a football match and had four pints but thought that he would have been under the limit by the time he was stopped. Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Lydon €700 and disqualified him from driving for two years.
