Litter conviction after woman’s Social Welfare slips found

A woman was this week convicted at Ballina District Court for littering after her social welfare documents were found among a large amount of litter dumped in Carramore Lacken, Ballina.

Litter warden Josephine Armstrong outlined that a complaint of illegal dumping in the area was made in November 2009. Fifty to 100 bags of litter were found in the vicinity and evidence belonging to Bernadette Muldoon, 17 McDermott Street, Ballina was discovered.

To date €15,000 has been spent by the council cleaning up the litter blackspot, and on this occasion the clean up cost €4,300.

Muldoon, who was not in court nor represented, was convicted and fined €500 by Judge Aeneas McCarthy.
