Good scoring in club competitions around the county

The winner of the recent stableford competition was Fenton Barrett who came home with a score of 41, Pat Mahon finished his round in second place with a score of 36 (back 9 ) with Jim Conlon in third also on a score of 36. In the ladies competition Aine McDonald was the winner finishing the event with a score of 36 (back 9 ), she just held off Geraldine O’Malley who scored 36 also to come home second. Third place went to Mary Gillard with a score of 33, the category prize was claimed by Mary Brett with Marissa Brett winning the youth section.

A mixed foursomes competition was held over the Bank Holiday weekend with Jimmy Sheridan and Maria Flanagan the winners. The duo of Margaret and Liam Ralph came home in second place with PJ Brett and Geraldine Kilgallon finishing up in third place. This weekends competition is sponsored by The Sheebeen Golf Society.

The club will hold it’s AGM on Monday night November 15 at 8pm, all motions must be before the secretary no later than Monday November 8 and all motions will be displayed in the club house at least seven days before the AGM.

Ballyhaunis

Last weekends stableford competition was a club competition and was won by Robbie Hughes who finished with a score of 40 points playing off 14. Tom Dillon who plays off 14 finished off with a score of 38 points (back six ). David Murphy finished in third place with a score of 38 points also, while the Gross prize was won by Tommy Grogan with 28 points. The ladies competition was claimed by Kung Fanning who scored 37 points, she finished just one ahead of Siobhán Herr who came home with 36 points.

Westport

It was confirmed last week that this year’s Ladies Winter League can be played on Friday, Saturday or Sunday of the applicable weekend.” The draw for teams will take place tomorrow, Saturday October 30.

The ends of season awards were also announced during the week. As mentioned in previously Nuala Moody and Maureen Keane were joint golfers of the year, the ILGU silver medal went to Jean McAleer, the bronze went to Hilda Feerick, the silver spoon went to Maureen Keane and the ILGU breakthrough broach went to Club President Bridie Hughes.

Its AGM season and the notices were sent out last week. The ladies club will have their meeting on Wednesday November 3; the gents will have their AGM on Thursday November 4 and the joint club AGM will take place on November 11. All meetings will begin at 8pm sharp.
