Mayo businesswoman wins national Employee Award

Mayo businesswoman Lynda Foley of the Harlequin Hotel, Castlebar, Co Mayo, has beaten off stiff competition to win the national Employee Award at the Network Ireland Conference Awards held in Galway over the weekend.

Ms Foley a former graduate of Dublin College of Catering, is employed as general manager of the four Star Harlequin Boutique Hotel. She previously worked for Irish and international hotel groups. In 2004 Lynda took up her first general manager role with the Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel, in Westport.

Senator Fergal Quinn was the special guest speaker at the awards with presidential hopeful, Senator David Norris as MC. The conference featured both Irish and internationally renowned speakers includng Jack Black, Deirdre Bounds, Veronica Canning, Enda O’Coineen and Mayo native Derek Reilly, area director of BNI. The theme for the conference was “Believers are Achievers” and speakers related inspirational stories and provided tips for success.

The main message transmitted from the event was “never give up”. Even in difficult times and while facing many obstacles, the advice from speakers was to remain resilient, keep going, and most of all, have faith as “without self-belief you won’t succeed”.

MS Ireland is the Network Ireland Charity of the Year 2010 and some €2,000 was raised for the charity at the event.
