Drink driving rap for Balla man

A 26-year-old man from Balla was convicted of drink driving at Castlebar District Court this week.

On May 25 Garda Shane O’Brien observed a car on the N5, Moneen, not dim its headlights as it approached. Gardaí turned and followed the car, which failed to indicate at a roundabout. Eventually it was stopped and the driver, Tom Niland, Cortoon, Balla, was arrested at 1.01am on suspicion of drink driving.

A breath sample provided at the Garda station showed a concentration of 56mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

The unemployed man was convicted and fined €400 and disqualified from driving for two years, by Judge Mary Devins.
