Google street view launched

As of this week, people can take a walk down their favourite street in Ireland from the comfort of home after the roll out of Google’s Street View project for Ireland.

Google mapped over 80,000km of road around Ireland in cities, towns and villages, including Castlebar, Westport, and Ballina. While the street view project has attracted criticism from some people over fears of privacy concerns, it could be used a marketing tool to attract tourists to Ireland by showcasing its natural beauty. Google started collecting photographs for the project in 2009, using a number of cars installed with the special 360 degree cameras. To check out Google Street View log on to maps.google.com
