Galway hurling legend launches new Belmullet hurling club website

Galway hurling legend Gerry McInerney was on hand this week to officially launch the new Belmullet hurling club website www.belmullethurling.ie The Kinvara native who won back-to-back All-Ireland medals with the Tribesmen in 1987 and 1988 said he was delighted to support a rural club that was at the heart of the community.

“I want to congratulate Belmullet hurling club for their passion and pride in promoting hurling on the Erris peninsula. They deserve great credit for what they have achieved on and off the field. This club has a plan and a clear vision for the future and I am sure it will be a success,” commented McInerney at the launch this week.

McInerney stressed to the club members the importance of underage club training and encouraged everyone involved with the club to continue their work on developing the skills of all players from a young age.

“The key to hurling is to start young and to build the skill levels and confidence of the youngsters from there. Hurling must be fun and enjoyable and then youngsters will want to continue to train and play for their club,” he said.

The new state-of-the-art multi-functional website www.belmullethurling.ie is part of the club’s three year development plans, which also include the building of a new hurling wall in Erris.

Belmullet club cathaoirleach Kevin Ryan thanked McInerney for his time and kind words stating he was an inspiration to the club. “We have a vision and a plan for Belmullet hurling going forward and with the support of the entire community and people like Gerry McInerney we feel we can achieve our goals,” Ryan commented. “We need that local support now more than ever before as it is very difficult to fund every GAA club at present and we are no different here in Belmullet,” he said.

Ryan stated that the new website will be updated every week with lots of interesting local GAA notes and Belmullet news snippets as well as GAA features on the site. “We hope that people will log on now be they in Eachléim or England and keep in touch with us,” commented Ryan. “The new site will cover all our club activities every week including news and updates on our underage hurling teams, hurling panels, fixtures, club history, contact details, club pictures and lots more.”
