Last weekend’s stroke play competition was won out by Don Dillon with a score of 50, he finished just one ahead of John Walshe in second place with Padraic Cuffe taking third on 53. The gross prize was taken by Joe Monaghan with a score of 57. The ladies’ competition was won by Lynn Coffey who finished off with a score of 51, a single shot ahead of Geraldine Kenny who finished just ahead of third place Marie Flanagan thanks to her back nine play. Conor Holian was the winner of the youths’ section.

Names are now being taken for the scratch cup competition, all players are asked to ensure that they have their O’Brien Cup games played before the due date. Tonight (June 18 ) in the Rendezvous in Balla a presentation night for the winners of the last four weeks of competitions will take place.

Ballina

In last weekend’s hookers and slicers competition, Kenneth Sheridan won with 30pts, Gerry O’Mahony came second on 28pts, and John Carden came third on 27pts. In the Willie Quinn Cup Michael Brady was the winner with 43pts, in second place Eddie Keigher just held off Stephen Doherty after both finished on 41 pts. On Sunday June 27 the vice captain’s prize will take place in the club, a time sheet is now posted in the club house on the main notice board.

Claremorris

The mixed foursomes team defeated Mulranny last week. The Junior Cup team play in the Irish Junior Cup qualifier at Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club next weekend.

This weekend the JFC Classic in aid of the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind will be held at the club and a large turn out is hoped for. In last weekend’s president’s prize competition, James Prendergast was the winner with a score of 70 nett, Colin Sheridan took second place with a score of 69 nett, while Walter Hennelly took the gross prize with a score of 79. Sean Kenna came home in third place, JP Hughes came fourth, and Brian Kavanagh fifth. The past presidents’ prize was won by Patsy Sheridan with a score of 72 nett, Eoin Prendergast won the junior section. The ladies’ side of the event was claimed by Norah Maloney with a score of 70, Emily McHugh came second on 71, with Emma Prenty taking third on 73. The gross prize was claimed by Kate Gallagher on 81 and Ann Moran took the past president’s section.

Westport

The annual Insomniacs Golf Experience takes place tomorrow morning (June 19 ) with a shot-gun start at 4am. The competition is open to all golfers and breakfast will be served before a fun presentation of prizes. Organizers would be grateful if golfers intending to play would contact the club, in order that a preliminary time sheet be posted. The entry fee including breakfast is €15.

Paddy Donohoe’s excellent season continued on Wednesday when he recorded the third hole-in-one by a Westport member, this season. A three iron was the club of choice as Paddy aced the ninth witnessed by club captain John Collins and former captain Sean Fitzgerald.

Some excellent form was shown by a number of senior gents, when they were victorious in the Liam Walsh Golf Classic, played on Friday. Perry O’Reilly, Bill Hopkins, and Padraig Kennedy accompanied Enda Lonergan to first place in the well supported am-am competition. A reminder that the next club seniors’ competition takes place on the 24.
