Famine commemoration a great success

A successful series of cultural events took place locally in the week leading up to the National Famine Commemoration in Murrisk. The organising committee of these events would like to thank all those who attended the events throughout the week and made voluntary donations to famine relief totalling almost €2,000.

The dedication and hard work of the Murrisk Development Association, An Garda Síochána, Civil Defence, FCA, the Order of Malta, HSE, the pupils and teachers of Murrisk National School and local singers and musicians contributed to the success of the event on the day.

Peter Hynes, Mayo county manager, acknowledged the tremendous effort by all involved. “The valuable contribution of all those who participated ensured that this year’s National Commemoration in Murrisk was a solemn and moving occasion, and a very appropriate and successful event,” he said.
