Drop in Mayo live register figures

Last month saw the live register figures in Mayo drop by 225 from the March figures down from 13,406 to 12,821, but this still registers an increase of 1,871 from the same time last year. The figures released by the Central Statistics Office this week show that a majority of males in Mayo is still signing on with 8,536 as of last month, compared with 4,285 females.

Ballina still has the largest number of people signing on in the county with 3,181 as of April, which is an increase on the same time last year when there were 2,756, but there has been a slight decrease since March with 46 fewer people on the register.

In the county town of Castlebar there was a minor dip with 2,335 on the register in April, down from 2,349 in March, but this is still an increase of 401 on the same time last year. In Westport the figures have gone up by 205 people since last year with 1,763 people still on the register. Men over the age of 25 account for almost half of the total 6,910 on the register.

Other offices where figures are registered in the county show as of April, 443 people in Achill, 1,084 in Ballinrobe, 1,039 people in Belmullet, in Claremorris 1,368 and 1,608 in Swinford signing on.
