Famine exhibition

As part of the national famine commemoration, Mayo County Library has produced an exhibition on this tragic period of Irish history.

The Famine in Mayo is an exhibition which provides a vivid portrait of the lives and deaths of the people as recorded by witnesses in books, newspapers, and official records of that period. The exhibition will be on display in the Croagh Patrick Visitors’ Centre (Teach Na Miosa ), Murrisk, during the week and will then be displayed in a number of libraries around the county.

Mayo County Council has also reissued the best–selling book The Famine in Mayo, by Ivor Hamrock, which tells the story of this tragic event in much greater detail. The book will available in all good bookshops, price €10.
