Belmullet action group to hand petition to HSE manager

A petition in support of Belmullet District Hospital, which has attracted almost 3,000 signatures, will be handed into Mr Frank Murray’s office at St Mary’s headquarters in Castlebar today (Friday ).

Mr Murray, local health manager, HSE West, has refused to meet a delegation from Belmullet to discuss the proposed closure of a portion of the hospital.

Representatives from the Belmullet Hospital action group will travel to Castlebar today to hand him the petition which shows strong support in the Erris area for the future of the district hospital.

The group are meeting at the TF Royal Hotel at 11.30am and will walk across to Mr Murray’s office at 12 noon.

When contacted again by local Sinn Féin councillor Rose Conway-Walsh to organise a meeting, Cllr Conway-Walsh was told that Mr Murray would be away until Friday.
