The organisers of the annual Mayo Goal golf classic, which takes place this year in Castlebar golf club on Thursday April 8, are aiming to make this year’s fundraiser the biggest and most successful yet. “Last year’s event in Westport golf club was a huge success,” said chairman Chris Farrell, “and considering it is the poorest and most vulnerable people around the world who are hardest hit during an economic downturn we’re hoping that Mayo’s golfers will do their bit this year to support the relief that Goal is providing to the people of Haiti.” Team entries for the golf classic are priced at €180, while tees and greens can also be sponsored for €80. It is hoped that over 40 teams will take part on the day. The prizes for the competition have been kindly sponsored by Pat Hughes of Carraig Donn.
