Bail not granted for man who threatened to kill his partner

A man who was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday and who was brought before Castlebar District Court that day was not granted bail after he made serious threats when arrested towards the complainant, who is his partner and the mother of two of his children.

Owen McDonagh, 27 Castlegrove, Castlebar, was arrested at 2.35am on February 3 and when arrested he said: “I swear on my kids’ lives I’ll cut her from ear to ear, I’ll do three months, six months, 18 months, I will f***ing kill her, that dirty bitch getting me locked up on my birthday”.

Superintendent Willie Keaveney said that the charges relate to a serious assault and made an application to remand the defendant in custody.

Solicitor for McDonagh Aidan Crowley made an application for bail. McDonagh told the court that he would comply with any bail conditions, however Judge Mary Devins refused bail and McDonagh was remanded in custody to appear at Belmullet District Court on February 10 for DPP directions.
