Interested in a career in horticulture?

Can you see yourself working as a garden landscaper/designer, garden maintenance, floristry, in a garden centre or nursery, or running your own gardening business?

Horkan’s in association with Westport College of Further Education can offer you the opportunity to develop a career in horticulture. The current horticulture course run by the Westport CFE is FETAC certified, and successful completion of the courses will place graduates at Level 5 on the National Qualifications Framework. Graduates have the option of directly entering the horticulture workforce, or using their results to apply to the CAO for third level places in colleges including the National Botanic Gardens or Warrenstown Horticulture College.

Horkan’s are offering a small number of places to individuals under the Work Placement Programme (supported by FÁS ) to join the workforce at Horkan’s Lifestyle and Garden Centre in Turlough, Castlebar, to gain valuable work skills in horticulture before applying for the horticultural course in Westport.

Individuals will gain on-the-job experience over a six month period during the busy spring and summer period working alongside the qualified team at Horkan’s.
