A Christmas message from Mayo Cancer Support Association

Mayo Cancer Support Association provides emotional support and practical help for people living with cancer, their families and friends. Now in its 10th year the demand for the services is increasing and the range of services on offer is developing to meet the needs of people whose lives have been affected by cancer. The drop in centre offers a professional counselling service, a drop in listening service information, aromatherapy, massage, reflexology, and relaxation techniques. All services are free of charge and are also available to family members or friends.

As chairperson I would like to thank all the people who have helped during the year by organising fund-raising events, volunteering in the centre, or supporting fundraising activities in their community. The money raised is used to ensure that we have the facilities and staff to meet the daily needs on an ongoing basis. Due to demand we are now running a huge number of workshops and courses throughout the year and these have been very well attended. We intend to continue with these courses in 2010. The programme will include bereavement support groups, yoga, style and image workshops, life after cancer, creative writing, and mindfulness.

To all those who have lost a loved one during the year we extend our deepest sympathy. Our thoughts are with you at this time of year.

As the year draws to a close I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people throughout Mayo and further afield for their support and generosity towards the work of Mayo Cancer Support Association. Our sincere thanks to the HSE, the Irish Cancer Society, the Family Support Agency, the family resource centres, and the Leader Company for their support. Without your support we could not provide this very necessary service to the people of Mayo.
