Man bought driving licence from internet

A 20-year-old man who failed the driving theory test six times and then decided to get his driving licence from the internet was before Ballina District Court this week.

Garda Kevin O’Connor outlined that on June 10 this year he was notified by a member of AXA Insurance in Ballina that she had identified irregularities in a driving licence which was brought in to her by Wayne Kinsella, The Cottage, Kildermott, Attymass.

Garda O’Connor investigated the matter and interviewed the defendant on July 16, when Kinsella admitted that he bought the licence from an internet site for €318. The number on the fake licence is actually issued to a woman in the Dublin area.

The court heard that Kinsella has two previous road traffic convictions including a driving disqualification. Judge Mary Devins adjourned the matter for sentencing to April 27 2010.
